ISO 9001 accreditation

To meet the requirements of ISO 9001 organisations need to produce a set of version-controlled documentation outlining the steps to be followed in each business process. These are stored in a Quality Manual and collectively give an overview of the procedures and processes that form the basis of your organisation’s daily operations.

To maintain accreditation once awarded the Standard requires organisations to conduct internal audits of their quality management system on a regular basis, documenting non-conformances such as customer complaints, failure to follow procedures both internally and externally, and ensuring  suppliers are delivering products and services that meet the specified requirements.

The documented system will describe the organisation’s quality management system, together with the policies and procedures required by ISO 9001. The documentation will define:

  • Organisational structure
  • Who is responsible for recording information and what information is to be recorded
  • Responsibilities of employees
  • Lines of communication throughout the organisation
  • What actions are required
  • How continuity will be maintained as staff change

Once an organisation has prepared its quality management documentation, it then needs to implement the system as set out in the quality management documentation.
